The project “So many times, apümngeiñ” was born around the investigation of the executed and disappeared, 1973-1990, belonging to the Mapuche nation by the authors Conrado Zumelzu, Hernán Curiñir and Pablo Silva, Temuco, January 2016.

“Predetermined Housing” is an installation that addresses the housing problem, from the general to a specific issue, in this case, the Mapuche social housing project by Undurraga Devés Arquitectos, generated in 2011 to benefit 25 Mapuche families willing to insert themselves into ‘modern’ society without losing their “traditions and customs”.

“Mürke ko” or ‘willpüd’, translated into Spanish, is the mixture of mürke (toasted flour) and ko (water), “Aguita con harina”, which is a term applied in the Mapuche culture to refer to the mixture, the hybrid or lacking in racial purity.

“Gato por liebre” is a work that refers to the popular sculpture “Caupolicán” by the pioneer of this technique in Chile: Nicanor Plaza. The work is a portrait of the toqui Caupolicán recorded by Alonso de Ercilla in his famous literary piece “La Araucana”.

This installation presents black horses stepping on each other’s tails (or hair). This makes a link to the meaning of the name itself – “something that went wrong”-.

“Settlement” is a video art piece that shows shots of faces of people with Mapuche ancestry from different places. The work aims to reveal the different conditions of people with indigenous ancestry, straining its scope towards existing prejudices about stereotypical phenotypes about the Mapuche.
